Christian Radio
The FM side of my car radio is set at 102.9, called the Mars Hill Network, a local Christian radio station. I often scan over to the Family Life Network out of Bath, NY and a couple of other local Christian radio stations. I found out some years ago that I cannot listen to anything but Christian radio for any length of time. I discovered that constant exposure to secular radio is quite exhausting to my soul. From time to time when I’m out on the road and cannot find a Christian station and have to settle for other stations to keep me awake, I eventually have to shut it off to avoid being sucked into the negative world of political chatter and tabloid journalism. I don’t bury my head in the sand to the point that I hide from what’s going on in the world. I just find that I have to discipline myself to absorb only enough to stay informed, and then run like the wind toward information from God’s Word and to listen to music that is only about Jesus.
On my way to the store on Friday I was listening to a new Mark Redman Christmas song that I had never heard before. There was nothing particularly remarkable about the song. But after the song was over I found myself overwhelmed with gratitude that still today the Christ of Christmas is inspiring the hearts of songwriters all over the world to inscribe words and music that invite both the Church and the unsaved to kneel at the manger to accept Him as Lord.
After I got back to the office I found a Christmas music stream on my computer as I was working on other things, and just let the music of this season wash over me and draw me into state of praise and worship. Old Christmas classics and new songs that will probably be classics some day, all about our Savior, can do a marvelous work of peace in our lives if we will just take time to listen.
I encourage you to find some music that is about the Child of Bethlehem and fill your ears and your heart with the sounds of songs that lift Him up throughout this Christmas season. And set your car radio to a Christian station. Your heart will thank you.
