ROCKOLLECTIONS: MONTEREY POP AT 54 PT.3
The 54th Anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival was June 16-18th.
And again, when you hear me say 50...think 54, lol!
Monterey was the first multi-cultural concert, with both established and new acts.
It was the first racially mixed, primarily white, audience for Otis Redding- who became a Pop Sensation as a result.
But most importantly, all these disparate artists got to MEET each other.
And they got the feeling that something big was about to happen to Popular Music.
The times they were a-changin’!
And The Who really did smash their instruments...and Jimi Hendrix was watching!
Must have been nice to be there that weekend.

A little trivia, the Beach Boys passed on a invitation to perform. They later said, it was a big mistake, and they regretted not going. (at least that's what I heard)

That's a vague memory for me too GT. My question is why weren't The Doors invited?

Dianne, the Beach Boys music still holds up nicely, I play them a lot.
