Adnan Arshad owned MTK Taxi LLC in Montauk and part-owned All-Star Taxi LLC. Federal prosecutors say the companies turned Medicaid transportation into a $19 million pile of fake rides.
Arshad pleaded guilty. A federal judge sentenced him to 97 months in prison and ordered forfeiture of more than $19 million.
The government said his companies billed Medicaid for trips that never happened, including claims for people who were dead, hospitalized, or incarcerated. For other rides, prosecutors said the group used false addresses to bill longer, more expensive trips.
Arshad used the money for multimillion-dollar homes and luxury vehicles, including a Ferrari, BMWs, and Mercedes, according to the Justice Department. Taxpayers bought the gas. He bought the fleet.
